museum1Friday, May 1 After checking into the Hampton Inn you will have free time to explore the historic Old Towne area of Alexandria Va. Shopping and dinner are on your own.

Saturday, May 2 Today we go to the Bible Museum. This museum documents the narrative, and history of the Bible. With 1,500 items from the museum’s permanent collection and 2,000 items on loan from other institutions, this museum claims to have amassed one of the largest assemblies of biblical artifacts in the world! After lunch there we will spend the afternoon at the Library of Congress and if time allows, we will visit the Capitol. The Library of Congress is the National Library of the United States. It is the oldest Federal Institution in our nation. great hallA fine example of 19th Century Neo Classical architecture the Capitol building covers about four acres. Inside we will see the Capitol Dome and Rotunda where Statuary Hall is located.

Sunday, May 3 More than 200 years ago George Washington had a vision for a national botanic garden. Established by Congress in 1820, the United States Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanic gardens in North America! Here we will explore the Conservatory, hundreds of plants, and gardens containing many rare and endangered plants. This botanical garden has been recognized as a museum and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. After lunch we head over to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, also known as the nation’s attic! Established in 1910, this museum holds the world’s most extensive collection of natural history specimens and human artifacts, including the remains of dinosaurs and tools used by early man. Here you can see the 100 year old collection of the First Ladies gowns and read about the contributions made by these amazing women. Last, but not least, we head over to the National Spy Museum. Here you can learn what it takes to become a spy. Displayed are lipstick pistols, enigma cipher machines, tiny cameras, and listening devises – many of the mysterious tools of espionage!

arlingtonMonday, May 4 After breakfast at the hotel we will board our coach for Arlington National Cemetery. This cemetery was established during the Civil War on the estate of Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s wife Mary Anna Custis Lee (Great Granddaughter of Martha Washington) Here we visit 600 acres of hallowed ground. This is an enduring tribute to those who’ve dedicated their lives to defending our nation. We will visit John F Kennedy’s grave, Memorial Amphitheater, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, graves of Presidents, Supreme Court Judges, Foreign Nationals and other Political figures. After spending two hours there we head home arriving around 8:00pm
